Last night, we had the great privilege of recognising two very special members of Taghmon Badminton Club, Nicholas Murphy and Eddie Cousins, as they retired after a remarkable combined total of over 100 years of voluntary service.
Nicholas and Eddie’s contribution reached far beyond our own club. For generations of players, memories of badminton in County Wexford will include one or both of these men. Whether through underage and county badminton, tournaments, league matches or visits to clubs across Wexford, their paths crossed with countless players, coaches and volunteers over the years.
They were familiar faces wherever badminton was being played, always giving their time, sharing their knowledge and supporting the game. Their influence has been felt throughout the county, and the respect and affection in which they are held is a true reflection of the impact they have made.
Closer to home, Nicholas and Eddie have been at the very heart of Taghmon Badminton Club. Through decades of coaching, organising and volunteering, they helped to build and sustain our club. Quite simply, we would not have the club we are so proud of today without them.
Our new Chairperson, Deirdre Dunne, presented Nicholas and Eddie with awards as a small token of our enormous appreciation for everything they have contributed to Taghmon and to badminton throughout County Wexford.
Although they are retiring, they will never truly leave us. We were delighted to make them honorary members of Taghmon Badminton Club. They will always be part of our club, and there will always be a place for them in our hall.
On behalf of everyone at Taghmon Badminton Club—past and present—thank you both for your extraordinary service, dedication and friendship. Your contribution to our club and to Wexford badminton will never be forgotten. 💙💛🏸
